BROWNSTOWN TWP. (WWJ) - What do Satan, expletives and Tom Hanks have in common? A man spray-painted all those and more on his Brownstown Township home — now officials are trying to cover it up.
"What a weird house," WWJ's Charlie Langton said at the scene in the 17000 block of Princess, near Crawford, where white spray-paint could be seen on the side of the home, on white private fence and across a red vehicle parked on the property.
The words "666", "Satan", "Sheep" and "Tom Hanks" can clearly be seen tagged on the property, Langton added, which residents in the area say is a giant, embarrassing eyesore.
"That's crazy, it's just crazy to me," one resident told Langton. "I'm happy he's locked up!"
According to police, the vandalism occurred at the hands of none other of the homeowner himself, 54-year-old Michael Todd Keffer.
Keffer is currently in the Wayne County Jail on stalking accusations, but Township Manager Brian Peters said they are trying to do something about the house after hearing complaints from neighbors.
“We got a lot of calls about it,” Peters said via WXYZ. “We are doing everything legally that we can do.”
Peters added that there are upcoming court dates to address the issue. In the meantime, the homeowner has been ticketed for the blight and could face possible fees.
Residents are hoping to covering the graffiti with boards and possibly tow the vehicle away from the property, but they remain stumped about what to do for a long-term solution.
"I don't know," another resident said. "I don't know, maybe a complete remodel and sell it for stupid cheap -- I'll buy it!"
Langton said in addition to the odd graffiti, broken windows and debris litter the property on the front lawn.
"It's really a wrecked up house," he said.
