DETROIT (WWJ) – The search is on for a man who opened fire on Detroit police officers on the city’s west side Saturday night.
Detroit police officials on Sunday morning released a photo of Tyler James Hood, who is accused of firing shots at officers in the area of Puritan and Beaverland.
Authorities say it unfolded around 8:30 p.m. when officers were trying to investigate a vehicle in the area and spotted Hood getting into the car with a gun.
As officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, Hood allegedly fired multiple shots, Cmdr. Arnold Williams said during a press briefing Saturday night.
After a brief chase lasted about a mile and a half, the suspect got out in the area of Brammel and Linden and fled on foot.
No officers were injured in the shooting and they did not return fire, according to Williams.
Officials are asking anyone who recognizes Hood or knows of his whereabouts to call 911 or 313-596-5640. Calls can also be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
