DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 29-year-old man is facing murder and other charges after authorities say he caused a deadly crash while speeding through a residential Detroit neighborhood.

Zaughn Dontell Coleman of Detroit appeared in court on Tuesday for an arraignment in connection with the crash that killed 40-year-old Quintell Ray of Detroit last Friday.

Just after 10:30 p.m. on June 14, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Coleman was allegedly "driving recklessly at a high rate of speed" westbound on 7 Mile Rd., near Greenview, when he smashed into Ray's car.

Coleman and Ray were both taken by EMS to a local hospital where Coleman was treated for his injuries, and Ray was pronounced dead.

The WCPO has charged Coleman with Second-Degree Murder, Reckless Driving Causing Death, and Operating while License Suspended Causing Death.

“The alleged facts in this case are among the worst fatal criminal car cases that I have seen in decades. We have made the decision to charge Murder in the Second Degree and other offenses in this case for a multitude of reasons," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy, in a statement.

She added: "These facts show a complete disregard for human life. It is alleged that the defendant drove at excessive speeds through a residential neighborhood when he hit and killed Mr. Ray. We are thinking of his family at this sad time. More specific facts will be revealed in court."

Prosecutors did not say just how fast Coleman was going, stating that more facts and evidences will be presented in court.

Coleman was arraigned in 36th District Court Tuesday morning and was given a $500,000 cash bond with the conditions he must wear a GPS tether and remain under house arrest if he is released.

A bond re-determination hearing in this case was scheduled for June 20, to be followed by a probable cause conference set for June 25.
