Michigan State Police looking for driver who hit marker, mailbox, speed limit sign, and left side-view mirror behind

ONEKAMA, Mich. (WWJ) -- Investigators are hoping someone in the public will come forward with a tip that leads them to a hit-and-run driver in Northern Michigan.

According to the Michigan State Police Seventh District, the incident happened either late on the night of Saturday, Sept. 16, or in the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 17.

Officials said a driver was traveling westbound on 8 Mile Road in Onekama, a village in Manistee County, when they veered off the roadway to the south and hit a marker for a buried cable.

The vehicle then struck a mailbox and a speed limit sign, before leaving the scene.

MSP shared a photo of the driver’s side mirror of the suspect vehicle, which was left at the scene.

Based on the part number for the mirror, police said the were able to determine they're looking for a 2014 or newer Chevy SUV, or Chevy Silverado or Sierra pickup truck.

Police noted that mirror appears to have a yellowish tint to it.
