Driver sought in hit-and-run crash that killed pedestrian in Pontiac, $2k reward offered for tips leading to arrest

Deputies in Oakland County are asking for the public's help in identifying a driver who took off after fatally striking a pedestrian in Pontiac early Saturday morning.

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Deputies in Oakland County are asking for the public's help in identifying a driver who took off after fatally striking a pedestrian in Pontiac early Saturday morning.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred just before 12:50 a.m. on Auburn Ave. near the intersection of South Astor Street in the City of Pontiac.

Investigators say 59-year-old Todd Frank appeared to be walking in the roadway when a vehicle heading eastbound crashed into him.

The driver of the SUV took off, leaving Frank behind. Deputies said the victim was rushed to a local hospital, but died of his injuries shortly after arrival.

The incident remains under investigation with the Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit and they have turned to the public for help in tracking down the driver responsible.

Deputies believe the vehicle involved is a light-colored mid-size SUV that is likely to have damage to the front passenger side, including the passenger side headlight lens.

There also may be additional damage to the hood and/or fender.

Anyone with information about the driver, the SUV, or may have witnessed the incident has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (773-25870.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tipsters can remain anonymous when contacted Crime Stoppers.
