(WWJ) Michigan State Police are investigating a serious crash involving a pedestrian on the freeway Thursday morning.
According to MSP, a driver who got a flat tire on I-96 got out of their car, just before 6 a.m., and was hit by another vehicle.
Police said the person who was hit was alive when first responders arrived, and was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. No details were released about the person.
This happened along westbound I-96 near Outer Drive, in the area where the local and express lanes merge. The westbound freeway was closed during the investigation, but has since reopened.
No other injuries were reported.
Investigators said they will provide more information later in the day.
Authorities remind the public never go get out of their car on the freeway. If you need help, dial 911.
MSP added, in a statement: "We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation while troopers conducted their investigation. Please continue to drive safely, stay alert, and avoid distractions while behind the wheel."
