DETROIT (WWJ) Drivers traveling downtown will be encountering closures on I-75 tonight and this weekend.

Northbound I-75 will be closed from the Davison Freeway to Eight Mile. Southbound I-75 will be closed from I-696 to Eight Mile.

The freeway closures, for bridge work, began at 9 p.m. Friday and will continue until 5 a.m. Monday.

Drivers can detour around the northbound I-75 closure by taking the freeway to westbound Davison, then onto northbound Woodward Avenue to the eastbound I-75 Business Loop (Square Lake Road), then back to northbound I-75. Traffic can reenter northbound I-75 at 8 Mile Road.

The McNichols ramp to northbound I-75 and the Seven Mile ramp to northbound I-75 will also be closed.

To get around the southbound closure, drivers can take the freeway to westbound I-75 Business Loop (Square Lake), then southbound on Woodward to the eastbound Davison Freeway, back to southbound I-75. Traffic can re-enter using the southbound I-75 Service Drive at the State Fair Avenue Entrance Ramp.

The eastbound and westbound ramps from 696 to southbound I-75, and the 8 Mile ramp to southbound I-75 will be closed.

Amid the closures, the city has also released an advisory about heavy traffic in the downtown area. People are flocking to the city for the Tigers and the Peter Gabriel concert at Little Caesars Arena tonight (L.C.A).

Tomorrow the Red Wings will play at the L.C.A. at 7 p.m (doors open at 5:30), and a hip hop concert will take place at the FOX Theater at 8 p.m (doors open at 6:30).
