TROY (WWJ) -- A Pontiac man could face drunken driving charges after he was arrested on I-75 in Oakland County last weekend.

According to Troy Police, officers encountered the suspect while working a separate traffic stop along the northbound freeway near Coolidge Highway the morning of Saturday, May 24.

At around 5:15 a.m., police were parked and dealing with another driver when a 2017 Chevy Cruz pulled up behind their patrol car.

Officers went to speak with the driver and found him asleep behind the wheel, police said.

When they woke the driver, identified as a 27-year-old Pontiac resident, officers "noted there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from his vehicle," according to the police report.

After performing "poorly" on a series of field sobriety tests, police said the man refused to take a preliminary breath test. He was arrested and taken to the Troy PD lockup where he was read his Chemical Test rights and refused to submit to a blood draw.

A search warrant to complete the blood draw was prepared and granted. His blood was drawn by medical personnel.

The case was turned over to the detective bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood results are returned.

The man's name was not released, with potential charges pending.
