CORWITH TWP, Mich. (WWJ) - State police said alcohol was a factor in a serious road crash after an alleged impaired driver crossed over into the emergency lane and slammed into the back of a disabled vehicle in Lower Northern Michigan on Thursday evening.
Troopers said they were dispatched to the scene of a rollover crash with callers reporting two vehicles flipped over in a ditch on southbound I-75 near the Winters Road overpass in Corwith Township, just north of Gaylord, around 7:20 p.m.
Witnesses said they saw a Buick LaCrosse crossing multiple lanes and swerving across the freeway as it passed the Vanderbilt exit. The Buick tracked over into the right shoulder and smashed into a parked Mercury Sable that was waiting on a tow truck, MSP said.

When troopers got to the scene, they located the two cars resting on their roofs down in a ditch off the side of the road.
MSP said the a 29-year-old Cheboygan man who was driving the Buick was able to walk away from his vehicle. The 49-year-old driver of the Mercury, a man from Beverly Hills, had his armed pinned under the car door and was stuck inside.
Police said they were able to free the man and he was air lifted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City with serious injuries.
The southbound lanes of I-75 were closed for several hours as troopers were assisted by the Vanderbilt Fire Department, Otsego County Road Commission, Aero Med Spectrum Health, Gaylord Towing and Otsego Lake Towing in clearing the scene.
MSP said alcohol was a factor in the collision and the crash is under investigation.
