TROY (WWJ) -- A Madison Heights woman faces possible jail time after she was allegedly found to be driving drunk, with her child in the car.
The suspect was arrested shortly before midnight on Sunday, April 12, after Troy police officers spotted her 2018 Jeep Compass parked with all the lights off in the right lane of E. Maple Rd., near N. Main Street.
Police said the officers stopped to check on the driver and found that she was asleep behind the wheel, with her 5-year-old child in the backseat.
Officers woke the 31-year-old woman, spoke with her, and noted that she had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and smelled like alcohol.
Atter she failed a field sobriety test, police said the woman submitted to a preliminary breath test that showed her BAC (blood alcohol concentration) was .170%, which is more than twice the legal limit to drive in Michigan.
The woman was arrested and taken to the Troy PD lockup where police said a Chemical Breath Test showed results of .139% and .140%.
She was issued a citation for Operating While Intoxicated Child Endangerment
Under Michigan law, that charge is punishable by five days to 1 year in jail, $200–$1,000 in fines, and 30–90 days of community service, for a first offense. Second offenses within 7 years become felonies, with up to 5 years in prison.
