DETROIT (WWJ) -- Absentee voting has been underway for nearly a month in Michigan. Now, Detroiters will get a chance to vote early in-person, beginning Saturday, Oct. 19.
Detroit residents can find their early voting location at this link.
"This is the change in state law that does allow early voting," WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton explains.
"It actually allows up to 28 days, but Detroit chose 16. Other cities have different numbers. You can cast your ballots just like it was Election Day.
Now, Detroit has 14 voting locations throughout the city. Just show up, present an ID, or have sign an affidavit proving you are who you say you are, and then vote."
Officials want Detroiters to know that your vote will be counted if you vote before Election Day — where it be absentee (from home) or in-person.
What is early voting?
In November 2022, Michigan voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment that gives voters the right to vote early and in-person at early voting sites before statewide and federal elections. Communities may also choose to provide early voting for local elections.
Early in-person voting allows a voter to cast a ballot before Election Day, in an experience similar to voting on Election Day.
Voters are issued a ballot and can then insert their ballot directly into a tabulator at their early voting site.
When, and where can I vote early?
In the City of Detroit, early voting will take place over 16 days at these locations.
