EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WWJ) -- An Eastpointe teenager accused of a knife attack on a fellow student earlier this month has been charged as an adult.”
The alleged attack happened around 10 a.m. on June 1 at Easpointe High School, near 9 Mile and Couzens, when the 15-year-old suspect stabbed another 15-year-old multiple times in the upper torso.
The suspect was apprehended and a knife was recovered at the scene. At the time, the school was placed into lockdown for roughly an hour, before students were sent home.
The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries. It was not clear what led to the alleged attack.
On Wednesday, the teen, whose name has not been disclosed, was charged as an adult on one count of assault with intent to murder. He was given a $500,000 cash/surety bond, with the condition of a GPS tether if bond is met and he is released.
Speaking to WWJ, Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido says the suspect was charged with an adult crime for adult actions for the “vicious and senseless” attack.
“These charges today should be a warning shot to everyone that’s going to school here in Macomb County, the students of this county who violently use these actions and this nature to other fellow students or staff members, this behavior will never be tolerated by this office, law enforcement and will be met with the strictest prosecution to the fullest extent of the law,” Lucido said.
