EASTPOINTE (WWJ) -- Authorities have identified a Metro Detroit-area McDonald's manager who was stabbed to death by an employee on Thursday.
Police said the victim was Jennifer Harris, a 39-year-old single mother of six children who had worked at the McDonald's, on 9 Mile Rd. near Kelly in Eastpointe, for more than a decade.
Investigators said there was a dispute between the suspect and Harris Thursday morning, after Harris sent her home from work early.
The 26-year-old suspect came back to the restaurant with a knife, shortly before 8 a.m., and allegedly stabbed Harris.
Police said a bystander fired a shot, trying to stop the attack, and witnessed were to stop the suspect as she tried to flee the scene. No one was injured by the gunfire.
Authorities said the customer was a CPL holder.
Harris, who was stabbed multiple times, was rushed to a local hospital where she died of her injuries.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reports there appears to have been an ongoing dispute between the suspect and the victim.
"Interestingly, the suspect allegedly posted on her social media that Harris was bullying her, had disrespected her, and had sent her home early a couple of times before," Langton said.
The suspect, 26-year-old Afeni Muhammad, is charged with first degree murder.
Meanwhile, a Gofundme has been set up by Harris' daughter, Kayla Harris, who wrote: "My mother didn't deserve what happened to her at all. She died trying to provide for us. She was a good person to everybody."
The online fundraiser has a goal of $6,500 for funeral expenses and to help the children following their mother's death. The public can donate at this link.
