SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- This past weekend's heavy wind storms causing a neighborhood power outage may have contributed to a Tuesday morning house fire that left an elderly couple looking for a new place to live.
Twenty-four Southfield firefighters responded to a house fire within five minutes of the 911 call on Tuesday morning around 7 a.m. on Lake Ravines Drive, near Nine Mile and Inkster.
The elderly couple escaped on their own and are safe with no injuries, but their house is completely damaged.
Southfield's Fire Chief Johnny Menifee said the house didn't have power.
The Southfield neighborhood is just one of thousands in the metro Detroit area still without power due to the wind storms on Saturday, Dec. 11.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
