
HARRISON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Residents in and around Selfridge Air National Guard Base can expect to hear sirens and gunfire on Wednesday as members of the 127th Wing conduct a joint emergency response exercise.
A spokesperson with the Selfridge Air national Guard Base in Macomb County announced that the morning exercise will also be held in conjunction with local civilian emergency-response and law-enforcement agencies and those who hear commotion around the case should not be alarmed.
"Residents and visitors may experience the sound of sirens, emergency broadcasts and/or simulated gunfire throughout the morning hours," base officials said in a press release.
The exercise could also affect access at both the north and south gates intermittently throughout the morning, officials continued. To help avoid possible congestion, the west gate at Joy and Irwin roads will be opened for base access.
"The 127th Wing routinely conducts training exercises to ensure Airmen are always ready to respond to a wide range of scenarios," authorities added.
Selfridge Air National Guard Base is one of the oldest continuously operating military airfields in the nation. The 127th Wing of the Michigan Air National Guard is the host unit at Selfridge.
Servicing both Air Combat and Air Mobility Command mission sets, the 127th Wing website states that the unit also supports more than 70 tenant units representing nearly all uniformed military services and the Department of Homeland Security
