(WWJ) A 43-year-old former police officer in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is facing misconduct and other charges after authorities say he improperly used his job to meet women.
Chad Olson, who worked for the Norway Police Department, was arraigned in 95B District Court in Iron Mountain after he allegedly misused his position to access personal contact information for women in order to "flirt and curry favor" with them.
According to the Michigan Attorney General's Office, in one instance this information led to one sexual encounter while Olson was on duty at the police station,
The AG said Olsen — a resident of the unincorporated community of Vulcan, within Norway Township — also illegally purchased a pistol without a license using his law enforcement number.
Olson is charged with two counts of Misconduct in Office, each a 5-year felony; one count of Pistols – False Statement on Sales Record, a 4-year felony; and one count of Purchasing a Pistol without a License, a 90-day misdemeanor.
This matter was referred to the AG's Office by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police.
“We expect law enforcement officers who take an oath to protect and serve our communities to do so with integrity,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said, in a statement. “I commend the investigative efforts of the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police and remain committed to ensuring those who commit such serious dereliction of duty are held accountable.”
Olson is next scheduled to appear in court on June 26.
