COMMERCE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- The search for a Metro Detroit fugitive has ended with a grim finding Friday morning.

U.S. Marshals Service deputies with an arrest warrant found the body of 55-year-old James Warner, a former Detroit Metro Airport manager who was convicted of bribery, The Detroit News reports.

It's reported by a court spokeswoman that Warner was found at his home, in his garage, dead of apparent carbon monoxide poisoning.

The arrest warrant was issued after he failed to show up for his 10-year federal prison term Thursday morning.

Warner was convicted in 2019 on bribery and other charges after allegedly taking $6 million in bribes from contractors and other crimes, according to court documents, the highest total in the history of public corruption cases in Metro Detroit.
