(WWJ) A former Westland Police sergeant has been ordered to stand trial on felony ethnic intimidation and misdemeanor assault charges for an alleged incident at a Detroit casino.
The Michigan Attorney General's Office announced that 42-year-old Kevin Yudt, of Grass Lake, on Tuesday was bound over to stand trial for crimes he committed while off-duty on April 6, 2023.
According to investigators, Yudt and a friend were at MGM Grand Detroit when security guards denied them access to the casino floor, as Yudt appeared to be intoxicated.
After being denied access, Yudt allegedly identified himself as a Westland police sergeant and told security, “I’ll be waiting for you when you come to Westland, and you will not survive.” He also allegedly poked the security officers in the chest while shouting racial slurs, the AG's office said.
Yudt was fired by the Westland Police Department in May of 2023.
He is now set to stand trial on two counts of Ethnic Intimidation, each a 2-year felony, and two counts of Assault and Battery, each a 93-day misdemeanor,
“My office takes allegations of ethnic intimidation and assault very seriously and will prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law,” said AG Dana Nessel, in a statement issued in a news released Wednesday.
Yudt will next appear in 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County the morning of Tuesday, July 9.
