DEARBORN (WWJ) Get ready to learn more about the man behind Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and all your favorite Muppet characters.
The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagine Unlimited is coming to the Henry Ford Museum from June 5 to September 6, 2021. It's a version of the permanent exhibit at the Museum of Moving Image in New York City.
"The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited is a dynamic new visitor experience exploring Jim Henson's groundbreaking work for film and television and his transformative impact on popular culture," the museum press release reads.
It will show how the late Henson and his team of writers, performers and puppeteers brought The Muppets Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, Dark Crystal and Labyrinth to life.
The exhibit includes artifacts from his career, including more than 20 puppets, character sketches, storyboards, scripts, photographs, film and television clips, behind-the-scenes footage, and iconic costumes.
You can even try to puppeteer on camera and design your own puppet character.
You'll be able to meet a Kermit puppet from 1978; and Grover, Ernie, Bert, and Count Von Count of Sesame Street from 1986, and other characters from Henson's lesser-known works, according to the press release.
The exhibit follows The Muppets Show from early concept in the early 60s until it launched in 1976, eventually becoming an internationally loved show.
Many of the artifacts on display were donated by the Henson family.
The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited is free with membership or admission to the museum. More information is available at Henry Ford's website.
