MILFORD (WWJ) -- An intense police situation Friday morning at the GM Proving Grounds in Milford was prompted by a fake firearm.

Workers there told WWJ Newsradio 950 that there were two buildings on lockdown, shortly before 10 a.m.; and another tipster reported seeing a massive police responds, including Oakland County Sheriff's deputies with guns drawn.

Milford Police Chief Tom Lindberg said his department responded to a call about was thought to be a barricaded gunman situation at the GM facility.

Lindberg told WWJ's Mike Campbell a technician was spotted on video entering one of the buildings carrying a rifle. But, as it turned out, the weapon was fake and had been brought in as part of work on a new emergency vehicle in development.
