DETROIT (WWJ) -- It's a slow-moving Friday morning commute in Metro Detroit, with falling snow making roads and freeway slick and treacherous.
According to a Special Weather Statement issued by the Special Weather Statement, light snow will persist through the late morning hours, with additional accumulation up to half-an-inch.
Accumulating snow is expected to continue to cause slippery conditions — particularly on bridges, exit ramps and overpasses — and falling snow will cause reductions of visibility to less than one mile.
The NWS warns there may be rapid fluctuations of visibility, so drive with care.
In total, including the snow that fell on Thursday, AccuWeather is calling for 1 to 3 inches of fresh snow in Metro Detroit with this round.
While the most snow is expected to wrap up before noon on Friday, forecasters say few snow squalls are possible later Friday, along with gusty winds.
Temperatures will then plummet Friday evening, with dangerously cold wind chills.
A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for Macomb, Oakland, Genesee, Huron, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, and Tuscola Counties, from 8 p.m. Friday until noon on Saturday. NWS warns of wind chills as low as 20 degrees possible in these areas.
In Wayne, Washtenaw, Lenawee and Monroe counties, the Cold Weather Advisory runs from 11 p.m. Friday until noon on Saturday, with winds chills as low as 15 below zero.
AccuWeather says it'll be a frigid weekend overall, with a high of only 16 degrees Saturday, and 18 degree on Sunday in Metro Detroit.
Everyone is take care to wear appropriate warm clothing, a hat, and gloves, and to make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.
Remember: Ensure that portable heaters are used correctly, and do not use generators inside your home.
Next week is looking a little bit "warmer" (if you can call it that), with a high of around 26 degrees with some sunshine on Monday, and up into the mid-30s for the rest of the week.
