FARMINGTON (WWJ) – Four basketball coaches in the Farmington School District have reportedly been fired in the midst of a sexual misconduct investigation.
Last week Farmington Public Schools officials learned of allegations between a non-district employee JV boys' basketball coach and some of the players. The coach involved in the alleged incidents was “immediately terminated” and had his building access credentials revoked, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press.
On Tuesday the district fired three assistant coaches working with the freshman and varsity programs who allegedly knew of the incidents, but did not report the misconduct, according to the report.
Those coaches are not accused of any misconduct with players, but did not meet “the required threshold as mandatory reporters to ensure the safety and well-being of student athletes,” according to the Free Press.
No names of the coaches have been released, pending the ongoing investigation.
The Detroit Police Department’s Special Victims Unit is investigating because the alleged sexual incidents occurred at the coach’s home in Detroit, according to the Free Press.
Detroit police officials told the Free Press they are investigating “several allegations of sexual assaults involving minors.”
According to a report from Fox 2 in Detroit, the coach would host “study slumber parties” at his home. One player told authorities the coach “was standing over one of the kids, naked,” according to Fox 2’s report.
No charges had been filed as of Tuesday, but the Free Press reported the case will be forwarded to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for its own review once the investigation is completed.
