FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) Oakland County prosecutors charged a Farmington Hills man accused of discarding fish and bird remains as a part of a religious ritual at the entrance of a Southfield cemetery with illegal dumping.
A Southfield District Court judge arraigned Dwight Respess, 48, earlier this week for allegedly committing multiple dumping incidents at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on 10 Mile at Beech.
Southfield Police said they had received multiple reports of the dumping of animal remains over the past several months.
Respess told investigators he placed the animal remains as part of a "personal religious ritual to protect himself from early death." Authorities say the animal remains were mostly pigeons and red snapper fish.
A judge set Respess' bond at $600. He is due back in court on August 12th.
He told police he was performing a "personal religious ritual" he believed would protect him from early death.
