DETROIT (WWJ) – A 41-year-old Farmington Hills man is dead after being hit by a car on a Metro Detroit freeway ramp while putting gas in his car early Sunday morning.

The man, whose name has not been released, had run out of gas around 2 a.m. and was blocking the right lane of the ramp from northbound I-75 to 8 Mile Road, according to Michigan State Police.

The driver was putting gas in his car around 2:20 a.m. when another car slammed into the back of the disabled vehicle and hit the man.

Authorities say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle stayed at the scene as police arrived. Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Authorities did not release the name or age of the second driver.

The ramp was closed while MSP investigated, but has since reopened.

MSP officials say the case is still under investigation and pending prosecutor review.
