
DETROIT (WWJ) -- A suburban teenager has been charged as an adult with premediated murder in the shooting death of a young woman at a Detroit intersection.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Thursday announce its case against 17-year-old Brandon Butler, who allegedly shot 23-year-old Tavita Hunter of Detroit the afternoon of Saturday, July 13.
According to the prosecutor's office, Detroit police responded at 4:45 p.m. that day to Cardoni Street and Robinwood on reports of a shooting.
Officers found Hunter on the grass, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. She was pronoucned dead by paramedics at the scene.
It is alleged, according to investigators, that when "an altercation" between Butlet and the victim escalated, Butler drew a handgun and shot Hunter, killing her. He then fled the scene.
It's not clear at this time if the defendant and the victim knew one another prior to this meeting, and further details about what led to the shooting were not immediately released.
Butler has been charged with First-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm. He was arraigned Thursday afternoon in 36th District Court and given a $200,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether and house arrest of he's released.
A bond redetermination hearing in the case is scheduled for Aug. 5, followed by a probable cause conference on Aug. 13.
