TRAVERSE CITY (WWJ) -- A convicted felon is facing some new charges after police say he was caught in Traverse City with a couple of guns he wasn't supposed to have.
Just before 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, Michigan State Police say a trooper with the Traverse City Post pulled a vehicle over on E. Front Street near Grandview Parkway.
Behind the wheel was 35-year-old Kevin James Stachnik from Bellaire, who did not have his drivers license with him and smelled like booze, according to MSP.
The trooper noticed a water bottle in the center console, and when he asked Stachnik what was inside Stachnik admitted it was rum and Coke.
The trooper then searched the car and found that Stachnik was possession of two loaded handguns and ammunition, without a concealed pistol license.
Stachnik was arrested and taken to the Grand Traverse County Jail.
He was arraigned on Monday in 86th District Court in Grand Traverse County on one count of Carrying Concealed Weapon, and two counts of Possession of Firearm by a Felon. Bond was set at $10,000, 10% cash/surety and Stachnik's next court appearance was set for Dec. 6.
