SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) — The 15-year-old Ferndale boy who was shot in the head at a Southfield hotel last weekend has died.

The teen was in a room at the Westin Hotel, near the Lodge Freeway and Evergreen Road, when he was shot early Sunday morning.

He had been taken to the hospital in critical condition and police officials said Monday he was not expected to survive. The teen succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

Southfield police officials say an adult booked the room where the teens were having a sleepover, but they were left unattended. Authorities are working to get in contact with the person who booked the room.

Police reportedly recovered two guns from the waistband of a 15-year-old Detroit boy who was taken into custody and charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon. He has not been charged with the shooting.

Authorities believe one of the guns was reported stolen out of Flint two years ago.

Officials are still working to determine exactly what happened inside the hotel room.

The victim was a student at Loyola High School in Detroit. School officials say grief counselors will be available for students and staff.

Anyone who knows something about the shooting is asked to call the Southfield Police Department at 248-796-5500 and reference case number 24-5073.
