FERNDALE (WWJ) — A Ferndale man has been charged after allegedly vandalizing multiple businesses over the holiday season.
Christopher Williams was arraigned Friday on charges of malicious destruction of property. The 54-year-old was allegedly seen on surveillance footage throwing rocks at the glass windows of two restaurants and a gym.
Officials with the Ferndale Police Department say two of the three incidents happened the night of New Year’s Eve or morning of New Year’s Day.
The department first got a report of vandalism at the 359 Fit Gym on 9 Mile Road around 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27.
Williams also allegedly vandalized the Red Olive Restaurant on 9 Mile around midnight on Jan. 1 and the nearby Dairy Queen on 9 Mile sometime between the evening of Dec. 31 and morning of Jan. 1, according to Ferndale police.
Officials say the department’s Downtown Resource Officer was able to watch surveillance footage of the incidents and share photos of the suspect to the patrol division.

Around 9:30 a.m. Friday, a member of the police department spotted a man matching the suspect’s description walking east on 9 Mile near Paxton. Ferndale officers approached him, confirmed he was the man seen on the security footage and identified him as Williams.
He was taken into custody without incident. He was issued a $1,000 cash bond at his arraignment. His next court date has been scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21.
