GRAND BLANC TWP. (WWJ) – Crews are working to determine the cause of an apartment fire Tuesday afternoon in Grand Blanc Township that left several people displaced.

The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairways of Woodfield in Grand Blanc Township, off I-75 near Dixie Highway, south of Flint.

While no injuries were reported, Grand Blanc Township Fire Chief Bob Burdette said the flames reached the attic of the building and spread to 16 units, according to a report from WJRT in Flint.

Burdette said the units were "significantly damaged" and "management is working with everybody to make accommodations for them to spend the night somewhere."

Firefighters were called from  multiple neighboring fire departments in Genesee County to help battle the blaze.

Crews had the fire under control by about 5 p.m. but were still dousing hot spots hours after the blaze broke out.

One resident at the complex, Lasonji Southall, told WJRT it was a chaotic scene as she worked hard to make sure everyone escaped.

"My adrenaline just kicked in," she said, according to WJRT. "I went and knocked on everyone's doors. I went to where the fire was coming from on the third floor and got to banging on the door to see if someone answered. So I just went from door to door, from apartment to apartment, just letting people know on both sides."

Crews are still investigating the cause of the fire.
