
(WWJ) The fireworks have been booming in the skies all week across Metro Detroit, ahead of the Fourth of July. But what's actually happening on the holiday?
Here's a look at top picks for 4th of July parades and fireworks on Friday:
The Wyandotte Independence Day parade steps off at 10 a.m. on July 4. It will run along Biddle Avenue from Mulberry Street to Plum Street, with horses, floats, marching bands, motorcycles, veterans, fire trucks and more!
Gibraltar's Fourth of July Celebration continues on Friday, July 4, starting with a parade at 10 a.m. at city hall on Munro Avenue, marching down to the Gibraltar Community Center on S. Gibraltar Road. Then, there will be a carnival and beer tent during the day, before a fireworks show by Great Lakes Fireworks at dusk!
Clarkston's Fourth of July Parade also begins at 10 a.m. on July 4, starting from St. Daniel Catholic Church, left onto Valley Park Drive, crossing over Holcomb Road to Miller Road until Main Street and then turn right on Main Street. Children can decorate bikes to ride in the parade, arrive at 9 a.m. at the church parking lot.
Clawson's 4th of July celebration features a carnival from 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. on July 4, at Clawson City Park on N Custer Ave, Clawson. There's also live music from 2 p.m. until the fireworks go off at 10 p.m. It'll be a spectacular show, so arrive early to get a good seat.
Huntington Woods' 4th of July celebration features a parade beginning at 10 am. at Salem/York, ending at Burton Park, followed by hot dog roast and speeches and awards at the park. There will also be a concert at 7 p.m. at Scotia park before the big Huntington Woods fireworks show at 10:05 p.m., over Rackham Golf Course on W. 10 Mile Road.
The City of Oak Park will host a full day of family-friendly activities on July 4, to celebrate Independence Day. Events include a 9 a.m. community breakfast followed by an 11 a.m. parade along Oak Park Boulevard to David H. Shepherd Park. From noon-3 p.m. there will be a festival at the park, with games, food vendors, music and entertainment.
The Milford 4th of July Parade is hosted each year by the Milford Historical Society. It starts at 11 a.m. on July 4, headed down Main Street in downtown Milford.
In Northville, they boast of "The best small-town Independence Day Parade in Southeastern Michigan," featuring bands, floats, antique cars and more. Presented by Northville Chamber of Commerce, the Northville 4th of July Parade starts at 10 a.m. on July 4 in downtown Northville. This year's theme is "Hometown USA."
