DETROIT (WWJ) – The Detroit Auto show officially kicked off on Wednesday with exhibitors and startups showing off new technology and mobility advancements.

But Ford started the party early Tuesday night at Hart Plaza, revealing one of the stars of the show – the new 2024 F-150 pickup.

One of the best selling trucks of all time is sporting some new features this year, perhaps most notably changes to the bed of the truck.

Ford is rolling out a dual-action tailgate that allows traditional fold-down access to the bed, as well as opening like a refrigerator door.

The new F-150s, built at two plants, including the Dearborn Truck Plant, come standard with storage boxes in the bed.

The new truck also offers 5G wireless connection and an increased ability to generate power onboard to power work sites, camp sites, tailgate parties and more.

Cadillac and GMC joined in on the fun Wednesday, unveiling the new CT5 and Acadia, respectively.

Cadillac’s new sedan features a massive new touchscreen display, while options allow for Super Cruise, GM’s  top-of-the line hands-free driver-assistance technology.

The CT5 Blackwing – complete with a 668-horsepower engine and manual transmission starts at over $90,000.

The new Acadia, meanwhile, is slightly bigger than years past. The mid-size SUV boasts nearly 25% more cargo space and room for 7 or 8 passengers.

The festivities are underway with Media, Technology Days and AutoMobili-D on Wednesday and Thursday, before the Charity Preview on Friday.

The show opens to the public Saturday and runs through Sept. 24. Find more details about what to expect at this year’s show here.
