JACKSON (WWJ) -- There's been no official word yet on whether or not former Detroit Police Chief James Craig is planning to run for governor of Michigan in 2022.
Still, he's making moves like he might be.
On Tuesday, Craig is set to make the keynote speech at an event with the Jackson County Republican Party, marking his first political appearance since retiring as chief last month.
In a statement, Craig says he will discuss how his experiences growing up in Detroit, policing in major cities, and bringing people together to solve issues led him to become a Republican.
The event, which is described as a "Birthday Celebration at the Birthplace of the Republican Party," is set for Tuesday, July 6 at Under The Oaks Memorial Park in Jackson, Michigan.
Craig ended his 44-year career in law enforcement on June 1, and is said to be contemplating a run against Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer next year.
