DETROIT (WWJ) – Founders Detroit Taproom has closed its doors for good.
Officials said on the taproom’s Facebook page Monday lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Grand Rapids-based craft brewer to close up shop.
“Unfortunately, our Detroit location has not been immune to the struggle to regain foot traffic after temporary Covid closures that have impacted restaurants and bars across the nation," the Facebook post said.
Ownership says the company is "working diligently to find new positions within the company for the employees impacted by this closure."
Founders opened the taproom in 2017 on Charlotte Street between Cass and 2nd Avenues, just north of Little Caesars Arena.
Prior to multiple COVID-related shutdowns, the taproom was also closed for an extended period of time following fallout from a racial discrimination lawsuit filed by an employee.
Founders’ taproom in Grand Rapids remains open.
