WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - A group of students from Lincoln Park High School face expulsion and possible criminal charges after school officials said they smoked meth in the school bathroom and were caught acting under the influence of drugs on Thursday.
According to the News Herald, Lincoln Park School Superintendent Terry Dangerfield informed parents of the incident on Feb. 24 in a letter where he also said the students filmed themselves smoking a substance out of a glass pipe in a bathroom stall before uploading it to social media.
Dangerfield said the four students were taken to a local hospital for evaluation by police after school officials observed their behavior — lab testing later revealed the kids were under the influence of meth.
“We will continue working with local police as they complete their investigation," Dangerfield said in his letter.
"In accordance with our school policies and procedures, the students involved in the incident face potential disciplinary action including expulsion and they face potential charges resulting from the police investigation.”
Dangerfield said the incident left district officials "extremely disappointed" and urged parents to discuss the risks and consequences of drug use.
“Possessing or using illegal drugs will not be tolerated at Lincoln Park Public Schools,” he said.
“This behavior does not represent the vast majority of the Lincoln Park Public Schools students, families or our community. We are continuously impressed by the integrity of our students, families and staff and I am confident our community will come together to help ensure the students involved in this incident receive the help and support they need.”
The incident remains under police investigation.
