DETROIT (WWJ) A freeway shooting on I-96 left a Detroit man hospitalized, according to Michigan State Police (MSP).
MSP said the shooting happened on the eastbound (EB) local lanes of I-96 near the Southfield Freeway on Saturday, March 28 around 5 p.m.
Authorities said a Detroit man, 33, called dispatch and reported that a bullet struck him. He then drove himself to the hospital. Troopers met the caller at the hospital and began their investigation.
MSP said the caller told troopers a black sedan approached him from behind. The caller was in the center lane of EB I-96, while the sedan approached him from the right lane. According to the caller, the suspect fired one shot.
The suspect then drove away, MSP said.
“Troopers were able to use license plate readers and other tools to identify and locate the suspect vehicle,” said First Lieutenant Mike Shaw. “Members of the ES Team, MSP canine units and Special Investigation Section detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Detroit and located several suspects and the suspect vehicle. Interviews are continuing as the investigation continues.”
The suspect is still on the run.
