METRO DETROIT (WWJ) - Metro Detroiters may have made it through a relatively mild winter with above average temperatures -- but the cold is now battling back with Frost Advisories in effect going into the Memorial Day weekend.
The National Weather Service has placed the several counties under a Frost Advisory ahead of an approaching cold front that will blow through the area on Wednesday evening and bring bitter chill overnight.
Midland, Bay, Huron, Saginaw, Tuscola, Sanilac, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Livingston, Oakland and Macomb are under the advisory from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday.
Temperatures are expected to get as high as 73 on Wednesday but strong, gusty winds will usher in the cooler air, chilling much of Michigan down into the mid and upper 30s.
"Near freezing temperatures and patchy frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left unprotected," the NWS advised.
Gusts between 20 to 25 mph are expected with the cold front before they die down overnight.
While Thursday will have a frost start for many Metro Detroiters, but the cold won't stay for long as temperatures are expected to rebound into the 60s.
Friday will be even warmer with the weather climbs slightly higher into the lower 70s as a large area of high pressure moves over the area and holds firm through the holiday weekend.
Sunday and Monday will be dry and full of sunshine with highs on Monday creeping into the 80s.
