PARK TWP (WWJ) -- When a father's car plunged into a West Michigan lake Sunday morning, his two young daughters escaped the vehicle and spent hours outside in the cold, looking for help.

In the early hours of January 21, the 52-year-old Ostego man crashed into Lake Macatawa in Park Township -- located just west of Holland, on the Lake Michigan shoreline.

The driver's two daughters -- ages eight and ten -- were also in the car but were able to get free.

Searching the fairly remote area, the girls huddled together on a porch to stay warm through the night before knocking on someone's door for help.

They were taken to a local hospital to be treated for exposure and have since been released.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office located and recovered the family's vehicle from the lake Sunday afternoon, finding the father's body inside.

At this time, authorities are still working to determine what caused the crash.
