Her office said the new round of grants came from the National Endowment for the Arts, whose mission is to financially recover and reopen theaters, museums and cultural arts centers that have suffered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state was awarded $1.3 million which will be split among ten organizations, including the Ann Arbor Art Association, Access (on behalf of Arab American National Museum), the Michigan Opera Theatre, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, and more -- a complete list is available here.

“These grants will be critical to growing our economy, supporting artistic organizations and creating local jobs” said Whitmer in a press release.

Whitmer said the grant money will greatly help the art and cultural centers pay for a variety of financial needs, from personal expenses, safety supplies and electric bills.

"I am immensely grateful to the National Endowment for the Arts for their efforts to support the arts, artists, and cultural organizations that enrich our communities."
