After former Vice President Joe Biden squeaked out a 60,000 vote victory in Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer congratulated the former vice president.

The American presidency is still officially undecided with votes uncounted in Arizona, Georgia and Pennsylvania, but Whitmer indicated it's time for Michigan to move forward.

“The people have spoken, and with the election behind us, now is the time for our nation to come together," said Whitmer, a national co-chair of Biden's presidential campaign.

With the eyes of the world on the pivotal Mitten State's electoral college votes, Whitmer used the opportunity to talk about the importance of fighting the coronavirus with a coordinated response.

"We have a common enemy, and it is COVID-19, not one another. This pandemic has ravaged our state, infecting more than 190,000 people and taking the lives of more than 7,400 Michiganders. As governor, I’m ready to work with the president and our state Legislature on areas where we can find common ground to keep our state safe."

Whitmer closely aligned herself with former Vice President Joe Biden and her name was even tossed around as a possible running mate until he chose Kamala Harris.

At the same time, she clashed repeatedly with President Donald Trump, who won Michigan in 2016 by 10,000 votes but lost it this time around. She even blamed Trump when a group of militia supporters allegedly plotted to kidnap her and try her for treason. He complained to the national media about "that woman from Michigan."

And she blamed his administration when PPE gear was tough to find early in the pandemic and for the response since then. In her remarks about Biden, Whitmer continued the theme, saying she remains "committed to doing everything we can to slow the spread of this deadly virus, so we can protect the health and safety of our families, our frontline workers, our seniors, and our small businesses."

"Let’s all mask up, Michigan, and let’s get through this together.”
