
DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police are still searching for a man who into a crowd in Downtown Detroit, wounding two people before the start of the city's 67th annual fireworks show on Monday.
Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said the double shooting happened just after 10 p.m. on June 23 in the area near Randolph and Larned streets. That's about a block away from the Spirit of Detroit Plaza and Hart Plaza where people were gathered to watch the show.
Bettison said someone pulled out a gun during a fight between to young people.
"We have two victims that were struck by gunfire — a male, 17, and a female, 22, non life-threatening injuries," Bettison said. "It happened at 10:04, right before the fireworks started. I had officers right in the area; they responded immediately."
Bettison said the gunfire caused people to panic and run, but there were no additional injuries.
On Tuesday, a DPD spokesman said police were still looking for the suspected shooter, who was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue shorts , and white and blue Nike Air Force One shoes.
