DETROIT (WWJ) – A flood watch has been posted for Metro Detroit as heavy rain is expected to hit on Monday afternoon.
The National Weather Service says southeastern Michigan can expect scattered to numerous thunderstorms between 3-10 p.m., while heavy rainfall could potentially continue through the night and into Tuesday morning.
The NWS issued the Flood Watch around 5 a.m., saying most of Southeast Michigan has a marginal risk for 1-2 inches, with localized totals near 3 inches.
The area can also expect large hail, damaging winds up to 60 mph, and locally heavy rainfall.
The storm is expected to move from the southwest to the northeast at roughly 30 mph, according to the NWS.
After the summer of 2021 saw multiple historic storms, the NWS is reminding Metro Detroiters to be prepared for the possibility of flash flooding in 2022. Officials are encouraging residents to flash flooding alerts.
Residents are reminded to "play in the pool, not floodwaters."
