A Highland Park officer was struck during an attempted traffic stop early Thursday and the driver fled, leading police on a chase that ended in Ferndale.
Police said the incident began at 2:15 a.m. Thursday. That's when Michigan State Police heard radio chatter that a suspect was fleeing Highland Park in a Ram truck after he had struck one of their officers.
The suspects' vehicle had disappeared in Ferndale.
Then a trooper spotted it traveling eastbound on 8 Mile in the westbound lanes near Woodward Avenue. They gave chase and eventually conducted a "maneuver" on the vehicle that ended the pursuit.
The driver tried to run from his stopped vehicle, but was caught by a trooper and turned over at the scene to Highland Park Police. Meanwhile, the passenger had suffered non-disclosed injuries in the crash and was transported to the hospital. Police noted the injuries were not life threatening.
Michigan State Police continue to investigate. No information was released on the office who was struck at the outset of the chase.
