WESTLAND (WWJ) -- The Wayne County Parks department has shut down a sledding hill after a child was seriously injured.
A notice posted to social media late Wednesday night said Middlebelt Hill at Hines Park in Westland is closed until further notice.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff's office, the hill — nicknamed "Deadman's Hill" by some in the area — was extremely icy when a 10-year-old girl went sledding with her friend on Wednesday.
Both slid into water near the hill, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, and deputies Westland Police responded immediately.
Officials said the girl was seriously hurt, but the extent of her injuries is unclear at this time.
Two adults were also hurt sledding this week.
If the closure continues, sheriff's deputies will start to write tickets for those who ignore the closure and continue to sled at the park.
