HOLLY (WWJ) -- A historic hotel in Oakland County will be rebuilt after a fire ravaged the building last month.
The owners of the hotel made a Facebook announcement on Monday, July 4, to thank the firefighters who put out the flames this past June, preserving the quaint village of Battle Alley that destroyed two buildings and damaged others.
"It seems fitting today to honor the brave women and men who saved Holly on June 21st... 95 degrees, 30 mile per hour gusts and 160 year old 'crispy' buildings. They saved the Holly Hotel, and valiantly prevented the Battle Alley being completely destroyed," they said in the post. "They are a humble group but deserve the appreciation for preserving one of the most quaint villages in Michigan!"
They also announced the hotel's "resurrection" will begin on Tuesday at the end of the post.
Other business owners nearby are happy about it, too. Jerome Raska, the co-owner of Creative Fashions in downtown Holly, says the rebuild will restore the strength of the community.
"They are definitely a staple and an anchor in our community," said Raska.
The hotel's rebuilding and refurbishing will take about 9 to 12 months, the owners said.
This is the third fire The Holly -- which was built in the 1900s -- has survived. The first was back in 1913, and the second was in 1978.
