HOLLY, Mich. (WWJ) -- A now-former teacher in northern Oakland County is facing criminal charges after it's alleged that he had a sexual relationship with a student he was tutoring.

Brian Charles Pearson, 44, is charged with four counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct – Fourth Degree (Student), a high court two-year misdemeanor.

According to Holly Police, this case dates back to 2012, when Pearson recommended to a student at Holly High School that he tutor her to improve her work.

The teacher gave the student his cell phone number, police said, and after a few months text messages and conversations from the teacher "became sexual in nature." The teacher then initiated a physical sexual relationship that lasted until 2014, according to the police department.

In May of 2022, the alleged victim told Holly Area Schools what had happened with Pearson while she was a student at Holly High.

That's when the district placed Pearson on administrative leave and contacted police, who launched an investigation.

According to police, the victim provided an investigator with detailed information that supported evidence recovered from the school district email system and other sources. The school district also conducted a detailed internal investigation that did not reveal any other potential student victims or other inappropriate communications, police said.

The Holly PD submitted its findings to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, and Pearson was arraigned on the charges in 52/2 District Court in Clarkston on Friday.

Bond was set at $5,000 and Pearson's next court appearance was scheduled for Monday, Nov. 7.

Details about the student, including her age and grade at the time of the alleged crimes, were not released.
