(WWJ) -- Drivers heading to and from Detroit along I-75 this weekend will have to take a bit of a detour.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says a portion of I-75 will be closed in both directions between I-94 and the Davison Freeway (M-8) as crews work on bridge demolition and repairs.
The closure will begin Friday, July 30, at 9 p.m. and last until 5 a.m. Monday, Aug.2.
Weather permitting, MDOT says, contracting crews will work on the demolition of the Meade Avenue overpass bridge, part of a $13 million project that will see repairs made to 12 bridges between Meade north to 7 Mile Road.
All work on the extensive project is expected to be completed in late November.
During this weekend's closure, northbound I-75 traffic will be detoured to westbound I-94, then northbound M-10 (the John C. Lodge Freeway) to eastbound 8 Mile Road and back to northbound I-75. The McNichols Road and 7 Mile Road entrance ramps to northbound I-75 will be available for local traffic, MDOT said.
For southbound I-75 traffic, drivers will be detoured to westbound Davison Freeway, then southbound Lodge back to southbound I-75. MDOT says the Caniff and Holbrook Avenues and Clay Street entrance ramps to southbound I-75 will be available for local traffic.
