OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WWJ) – An Inkster man is facing two felony charges after authorities say he used counterfeit $100 bills to pay for pizzas in Milford and Highland Township.
Javon Lavell Smith, 21, was arrested at his home earlier this week by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team.
According to the sheriff's office, the incidents occurred on Oct. 7. Smith is accused of ordering pizzas from restaurants in both communities, paying with a phony $100 bill, and receiving real cash as change.
Authorities said Smith then left the restaurants without ever picking up the food he ordered.
The case was investigated by detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Highland Township substation and the Milford Police Department.
Smith was arraigned on Tuesday in 52-1 District Court in Novi on a two-count felony warrant for uttering and publishing counterfeit bills or notes. He was released from custody on a personal bond.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for Nov. 19.
