Police tipped off about suspicious death in Ypsilanti home after intoxicated man told cops his spouse is dead

Police are trying to piece together what lead to suspicious death of one person after a man under the influence told cops his spouse died at his Ypsilanti home early Tuesday morning.

YPSILANTI (WWJ) - Police are trying to piece together what lead to suspicious death of one person after a man under the influence told cops his spouse died at his Ypsilanti home early Tuesday morning.

According to the Ypsilanti Police Department, the bizarre incident began after officers responded to reports of disturbance in the are of N. River Street and North Street just after 3:30 a.m. on July 11.

When officers arrived at the scene, the department said they found a lone man wandering the street while "under the influence of a controlled substance."

As police investigated, the man told officers that his spouse was dead inside his home.

"Officers conducted a welfare check at the subject males last known residence in the 800 block of Armstrong Drive and discovered a deceased person," the department said.

The victim's cause of death remains unknown at this time, but due to what police know about events and circumstances leading to the discovery, it is being investigated as suspicious, the department added.

No other details, including the identities of the man and his spouse, are being released pending the investigation.
