FENTON TWP. (WWJ) -- Detectives are looking into every possible angle after a fire killed a married couple and their dogs in Genesee County.

Fenton Township Fire Department responded to a call early Thursday morning to find a home completely engulfed in flames.

According to Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, 66-year-old Ray Drzewiecki and his wife, 64-year-old Beverly Drzewiecki, both died in the fire.

Multiple dogs were also killed.

Swanson live ammunition was going off inside the home as crews battled the flames.

Swanson said it's believed that something happened inside the home before the fire, and that's what investigators are trying to figure out.

"We're trying to find out what those answers are, so it's gonna take some time," Swanson said. "But because you had two people that were killed in this fire, I wanted to make sure everyone here knows around the area that there is no danger for the community."

"There's gonna be a heavy police presence. Investigators are gonna come and we're gonna put some pieces together," the sheriff added. "Those two victims are going to be examined by the Medical Examiner in order to answer some more questions. But, suffice it to say, there's gonna be a lot going on here."

Swanson told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the bodies of the man and woman were very badly burned.

He said his office expects to receive a determination on the official cause of death from the Medical Examiner at some point on Friday.
