(WWJ) -- Tuesday is Primary Election Day in Michigan and there is a long list of proposals to be decided on and candidates to be voted for across Metro Detroit.

The polls open at 7 a.m. and will stay open until 8 p.m.

One of the top races to be decided is the Republican race for governor, where the winner will take on incumbent Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Here are key races to watch in Tuesday's primary:

Governor
Voters will have the opportunity to choose between five contenders to take on Whitmer in November.

• Tudor Dixon, a conservative commentator from Norton Shores
• Kevin Rinke, self-funded businessman from Bloomfield Township
• Garrett Soldano, a chiropractor from Kalamazoo County
• Ryan Kelley, real estate broker from Allendale who was recently arrested over a Jan. 6 charge

Oakland County Representative
The redrawing of maps has resulted in a congressional primary that will put two U.S. House members against each other. Reps. Andy Levin of Bloomfield Township and Haley Stevens of Waterford Township, who both first won election in 2018, are running in the 11th District which includes much of the southern half of Oakland County.

13th district showdown
Second-term Rep. Rashida Tlaib finds herself in a nine-person primary in the Democratic-heavy 13th District, which contains much of Detroit along with Downriver cities like Taylor.

The leading contenders are state Rep. Shri Thanedar, Focus: HOPE CEO Portia Roberson and state Sen. Adam Hollier.
